The Houston rap group O.G Style received a lot of local radio play with this single. The entire album is no joke either. This was from the era of SP-12 beats, when producers sampled a funky drum break, paired with two or three different samples, recorded the raps, and it was a wrap. Tragically, both members of the group past, but their music will have an infinite shelf life as one of Houston’s top rap groups.
I was familiar with two of the samples used for this single but could not figure out where the organ sample came from. My last resort was to contact DJ Cipher for the insight. DJ Cipher is a walking almanac when it comes to samples and breaks. Not to mention that his record collection is outta’ control. A few weeks later I went diggin’ and ended up finding the break on 45 for fourtyninecents. Funny how things play out.
